Drummer/composer Masashi Takashima moved from Fukushima Prefecture to Tokyo in 2018, and since then his expanding musical activity has gained further momentum. After relocating, he invited musicians Madoka Kouno (tape recorders, mixer, speakers), Masahide Tokunaga (alto saxophone) and Yuma Takeshita (modified bass guitar) to perform his own compositions. A quartet made up of these three plus Takashima on drums and electronics performed a concert of four compositions by Takashima (each about 10 minutes) at Ftarri, Tokyo, on August 19, 2018. "Hubble Deep Fields" is a live recording of that concert. Based on rule setting and instructions by means of staff notation, text and graphics, the performances have a meticulous structure as well as an abundance of improvisational elements. What's more, despite the fact that they're discrete compositions, there's an exquisite feeling of continuity running through all the pieces. It's as if we were hearing a single four-movement composition. This remarkable album clearly demonstrates Takashima's gifts as a composer, as well as the artistry of the four musicians.

ドラマー、作曲家の高島正志は2018年に福島県より東京に移り住み、以前にも増して音楽活動を活発化させている。引っ越し後に、彼が自身の作曲作品を演奏するために声をかけたメンバーが、河野円 (テープレコーダー、ミキサー、スピーカー)、徳永将豪 (アルト・サックス)、竹下勇馬 (改造エレクトリック・ベース)。この3人に高島 (ドラムス、エレクトロニクス) を加えたカルテットが、2018年8月19日、東京「Ftarri」でコンサートをおこない、高島が作曲したそれぞれ10分前後の4曲を演奏した。

本アルバムには、その時のライヴ演奏を収録。五線譜、テキスト、図形によるルールの設定や指示に基づき、即興的な要素をふんだんに盛り込みながらも、周到に構成の行き届いた演奏となっている。しかも、それぞれ別個の曲でありながら全曲通しての流れも絶妙で、あたかも4楽章の作品1曲を聴いているかのよう。高島の作曲家としての才と、4人の演奏の魅力がはっきりと表現された良作。
